Core faculty are those from the three participating units who have taught the MATX core courses in the last two years. Affiliated faculty are those who have taught MATX core and topics courses and those who currently serve on MATX dissertation committees. Other faculty in the participating units, and sometimes beyond, may also work with MATX students, depending on their availability and the relevance of their expertise to the student's interests.
Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to identify faculty at VCU whose research and teaching support the work they plan to do in the program. Applicants should look for intersections between the work of faculty members across departments and for concentrations of faculty research in particular areas. For instance, together English and Art History are especially strong in the nineteenth century, and the English department has several members with expertise in various aspects of digital studies.
Individual faculty profiles, with research and teaching interests, can be found on each faculty member’s home department website.
